Relationship between files:  

Open file GGS1-GGS2020-BY_master.do as it contains all the relevant commands to create a combined GGS Wave 1 and GGS2020 Belarus dataset.
In order to successfully combine the data sets, it is important to have all your dta and do files located in a folder that
is defined as "global" in the GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.do file e.g. global data "C:\AlignmentWave1Belarus". After opening the 
GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.do file, you must change "C:\AlignmentWave1Belarus" part in the command to your working directory where
all data files (dta) and do files are stored.

GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.do provides commands that append GGS1 Norway and GGS1 Australia data to GGS Wave 1 file. 

1_GGS1_cleaning.do and 2_GGS2020_BY_preparation_appending_to_GGS1.do are executed by running the do commands in GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.do.

1_GGS1_cleaning.do lists commands that clean GGS Wave 1 data and prepare the file for appending with GGS2020 Belarus.

2_GGS2020_BY_preparation_appending_to_GGS1.do presents commands that rename GGS2020 Belarus variables to match GGS Wave 1 variables. It produces  
a combined GGS Wave 1 and GGS2020 Belarus data file named GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.dta

GGS1-GGS2020_BY_master.dta file contains all variables from GGS Wave 1 and GGS2020 Belarus. Therefore, it is advised to consult GGS1-GGP2020_BY.xlsx
that outlines variables and their labels in GGS Wave 1 and GGS2020 Belarus as well as highlights variables that match between GGS Wave 1 and GGS2020 Belarus.
Only the matched variables can be used to meaningfully compare demographic trends across GGS countries.

NOTE: the syntax does not harmonise the Life Histories, users interested in analysing fertility and partnership histories are encourage to use the Harmonized Histories dataset.
