In the GGP Data Catalog you can access an extensive collection of datasets curated by the GGP, including the Generations and Gender Survey, Harmonized Histories, and Family and Fertility Survey. Additionally, links to further documentation are provided to assist researchers in their analysis.
The GGP data is available freely for non-commercial purposes. To gain access to the micro data, please register in the GGP User Space and sign the respective data agreement. You can also browse the data and read the documentation either through the data portal here or go directly to the GGP Colectica portal.
The Generations and Gender Survey collects detailed microdata on life-course and family dynamics across countries. It captures individual-level information on significant life events such as leaving home, forming relationships, parenthood, and various life challenges. The GGS consists of two rounds of data collection.
Data collection of GGS-II began in 2020 and is ongoing. It features a revised questionnaire, enhanced survey design, and refreshed samples compared to the first round. Its objective is to provide comprehensive insights into contemporary family dynamics and life changes.

The Generations and Gender Survey collects detailed microdata on life-course and family dynamics across countries. It captures individual-level information on significant life events such as leaving home, forming relationships, parenthood, and various life challenges. The GGS consists of two rounds of data collection:
The first round (GGS-I), launched in 2004 as a three-wave panel study with three-year intervals, amassed data from over 200,000 individuals aged 18 to 79 across 19 countries. This data collection phase has been completed and can be downloaded per country and wave or as one consolidated datasets for each wave.

The Harmonized Histories is an international dataset, created by harmonizing partnership and fertility biographies from existing data bases into a common data format. The standardized data format facilitates cross-national research on transition to adulthood, family formation, and non-marital childbearing and is well suited for e.g. event history analysis. The Harmonized Histories build on scientific use files of family and social science surveys from different countries, such as the GGS I, GGS II, FFS, GSS, etc.
Each harmonized dataset is added to the Harmonized Histories datafile and released as one data package. Due to limited file size, the Harmonized Histories are split into parts for practical reasons (Part 1, 2, 3) sorted chronologically after their date of harmonisation. Data users can match all data files when needed.

Fertility and Family Surveys (FFS) were conducted in the 1990s in 23 member States of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The surveys are the direct forerunner to the Generations and Gender Survey. The project concluded in 2000 with the FFS Flagship Conference. The micro-data of the surveys is available for research to registered users.
