Background
The Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) is a key component of the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP). It is a panel survey focused on family life, life course trajectories as well as gender and inter-generational relations between people.
In February 2023, the GGP launched its first open call for user-proposed survey questions to be included in the GGS-II follow-up (Wave 2). The call attracted strong interest and resulted in the selection of several short modules addressing emerging and underrepresented topics, which were integrated into the Wave 2 questionnaire and implemented alongside the GGS core content (the Wave 2 questionnaire with user modules highlighted in grey can be found in the call documentation below).
Building on this experience, the present call invites proposals for new survey questions or modules to be considered for inclusion in the GGS-II Wave 3 questionnaire. The selected content will complement and enrich the core questionnaire items planned to follow those implemented in Wave 2.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for innovative and inspiring questions to be included into the GGS-II Wave 3 survey and fielded in all countries that will conduct this wave of the study.
The proposed modules should be:
- in line with the thematic scope of the GGS, bringing additional depth or a new dimension to the questionnaire;
- well suited to the longitudinal design of the GGS;
- scientifically excellent and well motivated;
- self-contained and easy to incorporate into the questionnaire, without requiring changes to the sequence or nature of any existing questions;
- short - even a single item can be proposed if it has the potential to generate innovative research.
The call welcomes proposals for entirely new survey content as well as proposals that build on or repeat selected modules previously included in the GGS-II Wave 2 questionnaire. In all cases, proposals should demonstrate clear scientific added value for the GGS and fit within the limited space available for new survey content.
Approximately 8 minutes of the GGS-II wave 3 survey time will be allocated to all user-proposed questions or modules. The time will be filled with several shorter submissions from different applicants; therefore, proposals should aim for a maximum length of 2-3 minutes of survey time. There is no predefined number of proposals that will be accepted.
Selection procedure
The proposals should be prepared in the attached template and submitted to: ggp@sgh.waw.pl
All submissions that meet formal criteria will be evaluated and scored by members of the GGP Consortium Board based on three criteria:
- relevance and applicability to the GGS;
- readiness and appropriateness of design;
- scientific excellence and novelty of the proposed questions.
For a full explanation of the criteria, see the attached documentation below.
Any Consortium Board member may evaluate the proposals provided that no conflict of interest occurs. Based on the scoring, proposals will be ranked, and the Selection Committee will make the final decision on which and how many proposals can be included.
Please note that proposals are expected to include ready-to-field survey questions or modules. However, the Selection Committee reserves the right to contact applicants and request minor adjustments to their items if a proposal receives a high score but raises implementation issues.
Timetable
Please, submit your proposals to ggp@sgh.waw.pl using the attached form by March 22, 2026.
The outcome of the call will be announced by mid-June 2026.
The proposed questions will be implemented into the questionnaire June-July 2026.
